About John Vecchio...Wildlife carving artist John Vecchio has specialized in creating hand carved, realistic duck decoys for over 15 years.  His obsession with fine detail has earned him numerous awards as he competes at the advanced level throughout the Midwest.  John recently qualified for the World Championships held in Ocean City, Maryland.  Competing against some of the world's finest carvers, he took third place in his division.  Bringing home a ribbon from the World Championships inspired him even more, and each decoy he carves is better than the last.  Every feather is carefully shaped and textured to give each bird a realistic appearance.  Each decoy involves over 100 hours of careful carving and painting.  John carves basswood and paints with acrylics.  They are then sealed with a fine mist of matte varnish for preservation and years of enjoyment.  Each carving is signed and numbered  by the artist.
